Track Laborer

Distributes materials, bolt and cut rails, spike track and shovel ballast. J.A. Placek Construction uses power equipment to enhance our laborer’s work.

Heavy Equipment Operator

Operate backhoes, loaders, ballast regulators, tampers and on-track equipment. Experienced, mature operators must maintain and inspect equipment with pride, and work safely and efficiently.

Truck Driver

Experience in hauling heavy equipment and tie down to jobs is a plus. The truck driver job is physically demanding, as drivers are often required to load trucks by themselves.

Mechanic

Mechanics work in J.A. Placek Construction’s main shop and in the field to do emergency repair. Travel and long work hours are required. Independence, organization and dedication to the work are vital.

Foreman and Superintendents

Supervise the crew to get the job done. Track experience and leadership skills are required, along with organization skills and familiarity with safety, production reports and time cards.

Estimators

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required. Estimators analyze drawings, specifications, proposals and other documents in preparing time, cost and labor estimates for railroad related projects; also, they review quotations from vendors and subcontractors to prepare bids.

Management Positions

Management positions at J.A. Placek Construction include Quality Control and Project Managers. Several years of railroad/heavy construction experience is required. However, entry-level positions exist for college graduates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management.
